In a talk, a sister was telling about decorating for Christmas with her 2 and 4 year old grandsons. After they put the tree up she started putting up the other decorations among which was three nativities in different parts of her home. She arranged them the way she wanted them and went about doing other things. When she walked by the one in the living room, all of the shepherds, wisemen and the animals were clustered inside the stable together. As she went to rearrange them, she stopped and checked the other two...they were the same...everything was inside. She said she suddenly thought, if I had been there that night I would have wanted to be inside the stable looking at baby Jesus not outside standing near the stable. She said she suddenly felt taught by her grandsons and is still trying to decide how to display her nativity scene. I liked it!!
Speaking of Christmas decorations, a few weeks ago I mentioned at our Relief Society evening meeting that it would be a bit different not decorating for Christmas, that I was going to buy a poinsettia and that was it!!
Our Imperial Beach Relief Society President Anne Goodfellow overheard me and today presented me with a gift bag with a small decorated tree and a Mr and Mrs Santa for my coffee table. It really touched me, with all that she has going on..and there is a lot of her right now, she thought of me. It made me shed a tear. What a woman!!
Elder and Sister Pett, Military Missionaries and good friends are leaving to go home in a couple of weeks. They came down on Wednesday and we walked out on the pier and had lunch at the Tin Fish. They really took us under their wings when we first got down here. It was a good time to go down to the beach because of the storms off the west coast (not down here, we just got a sprinkle) were causing huge waves. They were beautiful to watch as they crashed into the shoreline.
Danny and Denise Mounce invited us over for dinner on Thursday evening. He is the one who was just baptized a month ago. His wife is in the Young Women, so he would go over to the church with her and help with the Young Men. So it was only natural for him to be called to be the Scoutmaster! When he found out Elder Medsker had been a scoutmaster and knew the scouting program, they invited us over to pick his brain!! It was a great evening...he seems to be very excited!!
We also had a great visit with Sister Morgan, she is a widow. Her son, who is a nurse at one of the hospitals, lives with her and takes care of her. She gave us a "cake in the jar" that her daughter canned when she came down from Utah a few weeks ago. It is in a jelly jar and looks like a spice cake...will let you know!!
We did some visiting this week and wonder "how many times do we go back before we give up?" We are pretty determined people.....because every once in a while, someone we meet really touches our hearts!!
