Thanksgiving on the road!!

We decided to do a road trip on Thanksgiving
Day and see some of the area to the north and
east of us.  We took off about ten and headed
north on 15 to 8 then went east ...turned off
on 79 and headed north to the mountains to
go to Julian...a quaint small tourist town. 
The road  was a narrow windy canyon road,
Elder Medsker said he had found his new
favorite road!!  I was white knuckled a few
times!!  When we neared Julian we found fall leaves!!  The picture is a beautiful lake....the
leaves are more beautiful than the picture shows.
We were so excited!!  Julian is a fun place with a lot of quaint shops, most of which were not open. 
We just drove through and headed down the other side of the mountain and headed for the desert.
When we got on the desert floor, we stopped on a pull out on the old stagecoach road and made some little ham and cheese sandwiches and had a picnic.

We continued on through the desert and started seeing motor homes and trailers in small groups all over the desert.  We come to find out we were at Octillo Wells a favorite ATV site...little groups all over for miles and miles and lots of trails for ATV.

We continued east to Brawley which is a farming community then turned south and passed a field with fresh cut hay, another with baled hay and another with sprinklers going with something  growing....in November, just really different climate down here!!

We found I 8 again and headed back home then found a little road that goes down by the border in a rural hilly area with "another favorite new road".  Then headed home after our 260 mile exploratory trip!!

Tuesday, was temple day, Elder Medsker was the officiator (the one in charge) of one of sessions.  A good friend was in it and said he did a great job!    We also worked in the temple of Saturday morning, they were short of ordinance workers because of Thanksgiving holiday.  We were delighted to find two other couples from our shift there.  Saturdays are much busier days than Tuesdays.

We were asked by Sister Molassgo (a Filipino widow) to come to her son and daughter-in-law's reception, Saturday evening.  We were not sure what we were getting into because they had gotten married a year ago...but we went.  So glad we did, it was an authentic Filipino party.  A big buffet with Filipino food and I tried everything!!  It was very good.  The tables were set up on either end of the gym and after dinner, the music begin and the women (all ages) gathered in the middle and started dancing.  Kind of line dancing with smooth music....gradually a few men joined them.  They danced all evening all different kinds of dancing.   I was told they get together once a month and eat and dance.  It was most enjoyable....beautiful dancing, very graceful.
