Exciting news from the home front Sister Jasmine Medsker left on Wednesday for the MTC before going to the Washington Spokane Mission!! We are so excited for her because now we know what she will be doing and how she is needed. She is very friendly and outgoing...just perfect for doing missionary work!! Serve with JOY!!
Saturday at noon I was in the kitchen ready to make us a sandwich for lunch, when we hear Elder Bittner distinctive knock. I opened the door and he and Elder Richie were loaded down with ice cream, all the making for sundaes (the RS president gave them all to them after our ice cream social at RS) cupcakes, licorice etc. People had generously given them treats everywhere they went, so they decided to share and called a party at Medsker's apartment, so came to alert us!! The other two sets of Elder had appointments but the Sisters next door were available, they had a two baptisms in the afternoon, they serve in the Spanish Ward.
I fixed a few more sandwiches before we ate sundaes. Then we all dug in!! Such fun to share time with these energetic missionaries. And dutifully the Elders did the dishes and shared some of the food with the Sisters to take home.

Elder Richie got a call from the President Clayton last night saying his visa just came through for Brazil. He is so excited, he leaves Monday morning. We love him, he has been such a hard working incredible missionary, would love to keep him here!! The Elders have worked well together...or as they put it, "We are on fire!"
Elder Medsker is now an Institute Teacher...just never know what is next on a mission!! Elder and Sister Sorensen are over the Institute program in this area. The Institute building is in north east Chula Vista by the Stake Center and the Southwestern College. They found a lot of students expressed an interest in Institute, but it was too far away and many are on very, very tight budgets so gas money is a real issue. So they got permission to try a satellite class in our church building which serves all this southern area and ask Elder Medsker to teach it. The subject of the class is the Book of Mormon. First class was Thursday night and we had five students...three young single adults and two adults. He did a great job and there was a lot of good interaction. There was quite a bit of talk about it today at church and I think we will triple that amount next Thursday. Adults are interested also...technically it is for the youth, but at this point anyone who wants to come may. If there is a good attendance they will keep it going permanently.
In our visiting, we found one man who passed away and of course, the usual not homes! But we had a great talk with Brother and Sister Hunsaker. He was baptized and after he was ordained a teacher, his mother married a sailor and they were stationed all over the place and never active again. His wife is a Baptist and he goes with her to church....great, great couple, she would be a good Relief Society President! He said he had no interest in coming to church or hearing the lessons from the missionaries, but does not want his name off the rolls. He lived in Ogden until he was 13 and has brothers in Logan and Ogden. We had a great time talking about northern Utah!!
Friday, after our Ward Mission Leader Brother Gomez took us aside and thanked us for our friendship and support of him and Kathy and ask us to go to the Temple with them....they got their temple recommends!! They have worked hard to get where they are and he said they have never been happier! I love to see the blessings flow when commandments are kept....exciting, exciting!!
