This week was slower than usual...got in a few more walks, lots of reading in the church books we brought down with us and gained some interesting insights from the books and from life!!
After working in the Temple, we went out to lunch with another Senior Couple Missionaries, the Riggs. She is a nurse and is the first one the missionaries call with health problems. They work the same shift as us at the temple. She has a half hour break every week and a little room with a phone that she can go in and return calls from the missionaries. She gets a lot of calls of Tuesday, it is preparation day for the missionaries...so basketball, etc. = sprains, big bumps and bruises, etc. She always has fun stories!
The last time we met with the missionaries at Aurora's, they challenged her to have Family Home Evening with her children. The explained a little about it, but having never experienced it, she had not a clue. So we bought a FHE manual...you know the one we all have stuck away somewhere...she was so grateful for it. She really wants to pull her little family around her and it trying hard. I gave her a copy of the Friend and explained to her it came monthly...I think Isaiah will really like it. When one has been raised in the church, one takes a lot of things for granted.
We went over to Betty's with the missionaries and district leaders. She was interviewed for baptism....and passed it with flying colors. She was supposed to be baptized Saturday...but her friend ended up having to work, so it was postponed until next Saturday. As we left and I hugged her, she said she wanted me to know I had a lot to do with her deciding to get baptized. "It was the missionaries who taught me, but I connected with you immediately and it made a difference." When we got outside Elder Medsker said "Now that is worth coming on a mission". As we talked, neither of us could come up with anything special I had done, and the insight I received is that the Lord works through us to accomplish His purposes and sometimes we are unaware what is going on. Just very grateful to be in the right place and the right time....
We got to meet the Sister missionaries..three of them that live in the apartment next to us and work in the Spanish Ward. We inspected their apartment...everything was in order! The trainer is quite a woman, she is training two new missionaries!! It was great to be around Sisters...I enjoyed it!
This week for church we had a newly called Seventy from our area and his Executive Secretary and all of the Stake Presidency come. The Bishop had sent out letters telling the ward that we had a unique opportunity and they supported him and came out...some that we haven't seen in a few weeks. They spoke in Sacrament meeting, then one did our Sunday School and talked on families and then he also did Priesthood Meeting. Here are a couple of insights I like from their talks:
* You are only as happy as you are grateful.
* Be grateful and excited about what we know...let it build in us.."Plow in Hope".
* We always started Family Home Evening with "Love at Home" and by the end felt we
needed to sing "Master, the Tempst is Raging"
* In other dispensation of time, the Saints could flee Babylon, but we are forced to live
in it....make your homes a refuge for your family.
