We had lunch with Elder and Sister Woolsteinhulme at the Tin Fish on the end of the pier. We dearly love them, they are Mormon Battalion missionaries and he is the Physical Facilitator over it. It has been a good calling, he is a "fix it up person" and he just replaced a broken wall, stripped and painted the shed in the back, always sweeping the walks and pulling weeds, etc. He also takes care of the Sisters' apartments that live close by and work at the Battalion, which is almost a full time job!!
We first met them at the MTC, we were in the same small group. We practiced given lessons together, encouraging each other on and laughing together. They live in Peoa, Utah and have a farm there which we can't wait to see.
For Family Home Evening, we were invited to the Partridges, she is our RS President and he is a counselor in the YM Presidency, for dinner along with Sister Myers, our YW President, her hubby is the Ward Mission Leader and works night with the border partrol. They are the ages of our children and it felt like being with family again. We had such a good time visiting. Brother Partridge, a Jag (attorney) for the Navy loved finding out Elder Medsker had worked for the CIA and had a Harley. After dinner we had a great discussion about the gospel and the temple for our lesson. We really enjoyed it.
We had a Relief Society activity on Tuesday evening. Sister Vavas gave us a demonstration on bread making. She brings homemade bread every week for the Sacrament. It is so good!! She had cooked small loaves for all of us, and had bread for us to knead and take home and cook. So yummy!! We had a good turn out and it was a good bonding time for the sisters.
Transfer day was Wednesday....we had two missionaries move on, Elder Jones from the Imperial Beach Ward, and Elder Howard that we have worked with for nine months in the Otay Mesa Ward. We will miss him. I told the Mission President that I didn't really like transfer day...he said "But Sister Medsker, I always send you someone who is really good." I have to admit he is right...but they become like grandsons to us....oh, the whoas of mission life!!
We were called to go to the hospital yesterday evening, so Elder Medsker could help a young man administer to his sweet wife, who is five months pregnant. She had a high fever and lots of pain, when we were there they had told them it could be a kidney infection...she was given a beautiful blessing and in the background was the sound of the baby's heart beat that was being monitored. I loved hearing it. She is still in the hospital her mother-in-law reported today...the ward will keep her and the baby in our prayers. Such a cute couple!!
We didn't have much luck in finding people home this week, but had a couple of good visits. We went with the missionaries to a couple of teaching appointments. I love watching people grow as the lessons are given and the truths take hold in the lives of the families.
We went to the baptism of Gracie Ray, whom we worked with several months ago. She eventually quit coming to our ward and went to the Spanish Ward. It was the first baptism we have been to in Spanish. It was fun and the spirit was the same!! There were 16 missionaries there, five of whom were "missionaries for a day, and some who had been transferred and came back for the baptism. It was very stirring when they sang "I Am A Child of God".
We are off to a Mission President Fireside...they are always inspirational. All is going well in our little part of the San Diego Mission....the Gospel is true and brings great joy to those who accept it!!
