High Heat and Humidity!!

 This is a picture of Imperial Beach's own "bird man"...Rod Funiestas.  He loves to come down to the pier and feed the pigeons and they love him.  He is a former Navy man and Merchant Marine...just retired a few years ago.  He insisted that Elder Medsker sit down by him and then sprinkled cracker crumbs on him so the birds would eat them.  He talked a lot about his family and grandchildren.  He was excited to see we were missionaries, he sings in a church choir every Sunday.  He asked if he could get copies of the pictures, so we got his address so we can send them to him or deliver them a long with a Book of Mormon.  I

am sure we will meet him again on the pier...another pier friend!!

San Diego area has been having a heat wave for a couple of weeks.  Locals tell us for a couple of weeks in September it will get into the 80's.  But in the high 90's and Saturday in the 100's about melted all of us.  It has been 30 years since it has been this hot.  When you are this close to the coast, very few have air conditioning.

When our apartment would get above ninety we just left.  Long lunches or dinners in air conditioned places, window shopping in stores, slow grocery shopping, shakes at Carl Jrs., and we even took in a movie.  We saw "The Words"....Britt you would absolutely love it!!

On Saturday, five of us Senior Missionaries Sisters got together and went to San Diego's Quilt Show.  We all loved sewing and it was so fun to be around fabric and creative works of art.  My favorite was a 12 women quilting group who chose a lime green color (had to be a print), designed a wall hanging and it had to have an orange line running across it somewhere, some were at the top, middle and bottom....some used yarn, ribbon, paint and one had a line of poppies...then it was hung on the wall so the orange lines connected...so random and different...loved it.  It was a great day with lunch and lots of laughter, filled our hearts!!

We met with the Gomez family this week, they are the ones that went with us to hear Elder Ballard.  They have been to church every week and on the 29th Mia, the granddaughter that they are raising, is getting baptized.  She is excited and her grandmother is so grateful to be active again...so is Grandpa, but he still has a few issues.  But he is on the way!!  So exciting!!

On the last post I mentioned we moved, I got the box # mixed up..it used to be 20, it is now #30!  Same address otherwise.
