Great Week

On September 18, Tuesday Evening it was the Otay Mesa Fall Social.  We have a new Relief Society Presidency and the sisters really came and showed their support.  It was the largest gathering I have seen at RS.  They had great get to know you games and it all  turned out great.

One of the names we were given to check out was Britt Brotemarkle (73) who has been inactive for years.  She is a delightful women originally from Norway.  We had a great visit with she and her husband (non-member) and she indicated she would like Visiting Teachers and might come back to church. I went back a few days later and ask her if she would like to go to the Relief Society activity with me...she said she would love to.  So I picked her up and she had a great time.  One fun note, I introduced her to Sister Usher and they both exclaimed they knew each other.  Years ago Sister Usher had been her visiting teacher,so it was a sweet reunion.  Even though Sis Brotemarkle hasn't been active Sister Usher has been sending the monthly Relief Society letter to her for years, she ask her if she had got them and Sister Brotemarkle said she had and loved them!!  What dedication!!  When I took her home, she said to let her know when the next activity was she would like to go!!  Very exciting!!

We met with Brother Garcia the High Priest Group Leader and went over the ward list with him.  He gave us about twenty people, active and inactive and some he knew nothing about.  We were so grateful, we finished all the other leads we had been given.

We have had a great week visiting a few of these members....Sister Lightner, who has been our Librarian through four Bishops..that is over 20 years, great woman; Larae Highfield who thanked us for coming and invited us back because she couldn't visit then, as she walked us out past her roses she gave me some!!  Now that is a great woman!!  One sister said, she just wasn't interested anymore.  One night we went out to three homes, two not home and one had moved!!

Today was our Otay Mesa Ward Primary program....such a small Primary but it was a big effort.  There were the fun moments...one of our Sunbeams called to her mother from the stage that she needed to go to potty...luckily the RS President was sitting on the third row and rushed to the stage and took her hand, however, when they started out three more went with her....but the program went on until it was time for one of the little girls who had left to sing....so the Primary President went in search of her.  When it was time for another little boy to give his part, instead of going to the podium he ran down to his father (who made him go back to the stand, he gave his part but was not pleased)...We were so proud of the twins (4 years old), they sang so cute, and they sang together.  Last week at the practice they were both singing but Kadin was about a half a sentence behind...didn't matter they just kept singing.....you  know you can't make these things up....  So fun!

We had a date night Saturday evening with another senior couple, the Jeppeson.  We walked out on the pier and had fish and chips.  Fun to visit with them. They got to see the pelican that likes to walk around on the pier and check out the people fishing hoping to sneak their fish!!
