Freedom Still Rings!!

Our mission release date is July 22, so Monday night was our last Family Home Evening with our dear Senior Missionary Couples.  We have so enjoyed these Family Home Evenings to see everyone and have had a variety of activities.  The picture is Elder and Sister Kramer, Elder and Sister Rockwell and us....we were all called as Member Leader Support Missionaries.  We do such different things in our mission...it is good to get together once a month and visit, encourage, laugh and share special moments with each other.

 Wednesday the Imperial Beach Missionaries called and ask if we could help Kady Bergen move.   Elder Medsker has an adage that says "No good deed goes unpunished".  And it came into play, as we had picked up the Elders and Brother Martinez and went to Brother Cheney to get a truck.  As Brother Martinez was moving it out of a tight place he "tapped" a cinder block wall about 15 feet long and the whole thing went down.  They just left and called Brother Cheney and told him what happened...Brother Martinez has a son-in-law that does that type of work so it was planned to fix it this weekend.  However, the neighbor saw what happened came out shouting at them and when they left he called the police and they wrote a report for damage of property and leaving the scene and was looking for the truck.  They had a visit with Martinez and after talking with Brother Cheney and dropped everything.  The missionaries were pretty rattled at first because this was done under their direction.  Such fun!!

Emily and Mike came down Wednesday to spend a few days.  This was taken at the parade on Coronado Island on the 4th of July.  There was a lot of military in the parade, it is so inspiring to see those who are serving in the Marines and Navy...those who are keeping us free.

 Today in church we had three of our military men wear their uniforms to church....it was great!!

Mike and Emily at the Border State Park against the border fence.  We were so excited that the gate leading into the park was open and we didn't have to walk the mile and half to get there.  The park is right on the boundaries of Mexico, California and the ocean...the most southwest point in the USA!  

There were a lot of men and women riding horses on the beach, it was so fun watching them gallop and enjoying themselves.


We also spent a 30-45 minutes watching several dolphins swimming around!! It was so fun watching them....Emily got a lot of pictures.

There are actually two border fences one on the Mexican side and one on our side with about 50 feet in between them. The park is only open for three or four months on the weekend. During that time for two hours on Saturday and Sunday the gate on the US is opened and people can go over to the Mexican fence and visit with people on the Mexican side.  These two people were talking with men on the other side.  


Church was tender today, the Bishop in bearing his testimony thanked Elder Medsker for his service as his counselor and said we were going home in a couple of weeks.  We have come to dearly love these dear members of our ward family, lots of hugs.  I wasn't prepared for the tugs of the heart that are happening...
