We haven't walked in the Estuary for a few weeks but when we went this week we found it had blossomed in yellow daisies!! It was so beautiful, made me happy!! There were a lot of red-winged black birds gathered on the cat tails and singing away.
This was a busy week for us. After our temple shift on Tuesday, we met with President and Sister Clayton, our Mission President and three other senior couples who are Member, Leader Support Missionaries...the Beaments, Kramers, Rockwells. President Clayton thought we might enjoy getting together once a month to share our success and frustrations and getting to know each other. The President will join us when he can, we decided to do it over dinner in May. We talked for quite a while, it was really good...although we have the same callings we all do such different things..one couple is working with the YSA and the Mormon Battalion, another works with the Employment Office for the YSA and temple grounds, another are in the Spanish Ward, she also teaches piano lessons to ward members so they have some one to play the piano for the ward. Probably our same frustration was not being able to catch people at home...however, I think those trying to find the Young Single Adults have a harder time!! We talked how helpful meeting would be for new Senior Couples to have support as they are trying to "find their mission".
We went with the missionaries to teach BJ and Aurora again. They are very positive about becoming active again...Aurora especially wants her three boys to grow up with the gospel. The oldest boy is ten and the missionaries are going to work with him so he can get baptized. It feels different in their home, there is hope and direction for the first time. It is a good beginning .......
We had a Mission Conference on Thursday with Elder Whiting, a seventy and his wife. It was a really good teaching session for the missionaries. He stressed obedience to the mission rules, so they could be blessed and inspired as how to teach their investigators. He told them they would be challenged, to accept it and not fight it because the Lord was shaping them into something great. He said the missionaries come as "matter unorganized" (I love that) and missions are to organize them for their future lives. It is so great to be around the Elders and Sisters, they carry such an incredible spirit about them and such wonderful energy!!
Thursday evening, we went to the temple...it was the Otay Mesa Relief Society Temple night. It was a hearing impaired session, so monitors were set up with someone doing sign language during the teaching.
One man was both hearing impaired and had very thick glasses and couldn't see the monitor, so he sat on a chair facing a man on the front row. He put his hand on the man's as he was doing the sign language and he seemed to understand. It was amazing to watch!
While visiting this week, we found a young mother who has been inactive for years and has just moved into our ward, her hubby is military. She has tried to come back a few times and would like to again. We have a ward missionary, Holly who husband is also military and has young children. We will introduce the two of them and we hope to report good things!!
It was our Stake Conference this weekend, Elder Reynolds our Area Seventy was visiting. What incredible meetings we had. For our general session today, our new Stake President spoke, then President and Sister Clayton, President and Sister Finnegan (temple president and matron). All gave wonderful talks about missionary work and blessings of the temple, such inspiring people. Then Elder Reynolds spoke, he told many fun stories and related them to life. One thing I liked that he said was that God is busy building His Kingdom strong. He is building us, the kingdom of God is within each of us, we are his great work. He also said "Knock is the name of the game." We have to ask to get answers...what do we need to ask about to move forward....always forward!
