Tuesday turned out to be a special day, well it always is because that is our morning to work at the temple, but our Otay Mesa Ward had its first ever Relief Society Temple Day. We had six sisters there, pretty good for our ward. Elder Medsker was in charge of welcoming the sessions to the temple that morning and starting the sessions, so he got to see them as they started. I worked the veil, and it was so great to walk into the endowment room and see our sweet sisters and I even got to take one of our sisters from Romania through the veil. It is great to see the ward grow bit by bit!!
As we walk on the beach in the mornings, it is not unusual to see science classes from the High School doing all different kinds of scientific experiments. But this week it was a class of para-gliders learning how to control the chutes and the ocean breezes. We watched for a while, it takes a lot balance and muscles to keep them up in the air. I hope at some time, we will be able to watch them go out over the ocean.
The Otay Ward had a 50's Sock Hop on Friday Evening...not a very good show of people, but those of us there sure had fun. We even had a real live disc jockey, an inactive member we all have been trying to get out. One never knows what gifts you will be ask to share on a mission...this night it was the gift of knowing how to jitterbug. There were a few of the sisters and teens trying to figure out the steps and ask us to come and show them. It was kind of fun being surrounding by all of them copying our steps...we passed it to another generation!! We also found out at this age jitterbugging can wear you our fast!
There were dances for everyone, we all took turns dancing, then sitting down and enjoying the next generation take a turn! We, of course, had the Limbo Pole, Sister Gifford shown here ready to take her turn was remarkable limber! Then came the Gangnam (?) dance, our kids can move right down to the 2 year olds, then the slow dance for all us older types, and ended the night in Line Dancing which is traditional in the Filipino and Mexican culturals...which we have lots of in our ward.
A great moment for the Medsker family...Jasi went through the temple and took out her endowments on Saturday. It may have been snowing hard, but her spirit was soaring!! So proud of her.
We just had the missionaries stop by and we went over last weeks visiting with them...they are sure incredible, and I had made brownies which they willingly ate a few. We had found five more families that had moved, they found two; two sisters who only spoke Spanish, several that were not home and one who wished we wouldn't have found her!!
